Cycle of Seasons is a 30-minute class just for children (with a few parent helpers every week). While this age group does many of the same types of activities as the Family Music class, it begins to incorporate longer discussion times, listenings, and more complex physical movements for dancing with parachutes, and hoops, etc. We likewise begin the addition of more intricate rhythmic and tonal patterns using drums, jingles, rattles, rocking bands, tambourines, bongos, rhythm sticks, sandblocks, the glockenspiel, metallophone, and resonator bars. Each child has several opportunities every semester to play fun, impromptu instrumental solos while the rest of the class sings along.
The Cycle of Seasons class has an ecological theme that emphasizes the beauty and music found in Nature. We study each of the 4 seasons with 8 new animals introduced for every season with pictures, listenings, and mini-discussions. Natural and seasonal elements such as leaves, wind, rain, snow, seeds, and gardens are also the subject of many of our songs and poetry.

Music Makers: Around the World (4 to 7 Years)15-week semester

Music Makers: Around the World is a 45-minute class in which students use flashcards to begin learning about rests, common melodic patterns, rhythmic patterns in duple and triple meters, and dynamic markings. In the earlier Musikgarten age groups children learn elements of music like steady beat, rhythm, melody, and expression by “doing.” Music Makers is the first of the Musikgarten classes to begin actively discussing “how” music is read and written.
Music Makers is a wonderful preparation for future private music lessons, although students need not be planning to take music privately to enjoy the academic benefits of class. While we begin more advanced intellectual and musical activities, there is still lots of time for singing, dancing, reading stories and poetry, games, and instruments, including maracas, bongos, tambourines, the glockenspiel, metallophone, resonator bars, and keyboards. We likewise use posters and listening activities to begin identifying musical instruments from the woodwind, brass, string, and percussion families.
There are four units to class: 1) British Isles, 2) American-Indian, 3) Germany, and 4) African-American. Each unit offers a respectful study of the music, dances, customs, clothing, food, and people. We likewise study the popular/historic songs, composers, and instruments from each area. This curriculum includes beautifully choreographed social dances, as well as lots of ensemble development for the advanced musicianship skills used in piano lessons, choirs, orchestras, and bands.

Please refer to the "Music Makers: Around the World" page for more class-specific information on this class.
Supplemental material for Music Makers: Around the World may be purchased using the Order Form.  Please complete the Order Form and send it, along with payment, to mailing address: 601 Deltino Ct., Lexington, KY 40515.  Upon receipt of your order, we will contact you to confirm.

Music Makers: At the Piano I (6 - 9 yrs) and II (7 - 10 yrs) (6 to 10 Years)15-week semester
Music Makers: At the Piano is a 60-minute class offering joyful opportunities for building keyboarding skills – along with singing, dancing, drumming, ensemble playing, writing and reading music. Students will use scarves, hoops, maracas, drums, bongos, tambourines, rattles, jingles, sandblocks, rhythm sticks, resonator bars, glockenspiels, pianos, and the metallophone in class. After completing the 2-year program, students are equipped with the aural, music-reading, and technical skills to be successful in private piano/instrumental lessons.
Music literacy is the goal of our piano class. This will aid the student in all future music making activities. While this curriculum builds on the repertoire and musical skills learned in the Musikgarten 0 – 7 yr. program, it also establishes a music and movement foundation for older students encountering their first formal musical experience.
Students must have either a piano or a keyboard for practice at home (small is okay). Year 1’s curriculum includes 2 student books, 14 notation games, and 4 CD’s. Due to the distribution of books and CD’s, the cost of this class is less every semester of the year (Ex: Semester 1 = $266, Semester 2 = $251, Semester 3 = $195). Please consult Jennifer Tutt before mailing enrollment for this age group. Schedule TBA by class.
